Do you think the Golden Age of Bhangra of has come, or is it now or has it yet to come?
I think the late 80s and early 90s were the Golden Age. You had great bands like Heera, Gurdas Maan, Malkit Singh, The Safri Boys, Apna Sangeet, and many more putting out great songs. Sure some of these bands and singers are still here but they have moved away from what got them noticed to other things. The singers are moving into fade genres like Garage http://www.bhangraomega.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif where it will be popular for a couple of years and then some "new" sound will take over. In the mid-90s it was Jungle, drum and bass. In the late 80s and early 90s it was techno http://www.bhangraomega.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .
Now every CD that is released seems to be a cover of those songs or they just change the wording some what. Back then it was pure Bhangra and not the mixed with Garbage, um I mean Garage, and hip-hop. The singers didn't have to depend on Vocoders to "enhance" their voices. The singers were putting all of their might in to the songs to convey it's meaning and emotions. Now it seems all the songs are the same redunant stuff again: the DJs and labels keep using the same samples over and over, the CDs are never longer than 50 minutes and to reach that the label puts some so called remix/mixes of the song to fill out the empty time. If they are going to do that why not have DJs like Bally Sagoo, Punjabi MC, TS Soundz and others provide original remixes on the track.
