Do you think the Golden Age of Bhangra of has come, or is it now or has it yet to come?

I think the late 80s and early 90s were the Golden Age. You had great bands like Heera, Gurdas Maan, Malkit Singh, The Safri Boys, Apna Sangeet, and many more putting out great songs. Sure some of these bands and singers are still here but they have moved away from what got them noticed to other things. The singers are moving into fade genres like Garage where it will be popular for a couple of years and then some "new" sound will take over. In the mid-90s it was Jungle, drum and bass. In the late 80s and early 90s it was techno .

Now every CD that is released seems to be a cover of those songs or they just change the wording some what. Back then it was pure Bhangra and not the mixed with Garbage, um I mean Garage, and hip-hop. The singers didn't have to depend on Vocoders to "enhance" their voices. The singers were putting all of their might in to the songs to convey it's meaning and emotions. Now it seems all the songs are the same redunant stuff again: the DJs and labels keep using the same samples over and over, the CDs are never longer than 50 minutes and to reach that the label puts some so called remix/mixes of the song to fill out the empty time. If they are going to do that why not have DJs like Bally Sagoo, Punjabi MC, TS Soundz and others provide original remixes on the track.

The Golden age of Bhangra seems to have pasted. Â* The Bhangra singers them selfs aren't really happy about it themselfs. Â*It seems that the only products that sell these days are songs which have been ripped off of the mainstream market. Â*Also why would any one go out and by a cd when you can just download the music off the net. Â*The Bhangra industry is so small compared to the Mainstream industry so when you download a bhangra track you end up hurting the atrists more. Â* And so this is reflected in the music that is produced. Â*Can any one honestly say that there has been a release to date that could have matched albums such as bomb the thumbi or midus touch? Â*Back in those days artists were making money doing shows so there was instentive to produce albums. Â*Now adays no one wants live music they reather get a dj. Â*Also the record companys which release the matiele get most of the profit the artist usually doesn't get any money. Â*The Bhangra industry is fallin apart yes, do to pirates, mp3's and a generaly factor that everyone is ripping everyone off. Â*The people who are left in the industry are only in it cuz they love the music thats the only reason. Â*Well anyways on a better note check out www.exsentrik.com these boys show some promise to fill the lose of all those great punjabi vocalists.

Peace
